MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY
Synder Phillips Dining Hall
East Lansing, Michigan
Project Description
An 84,000 s.f. three-story structure now connects Snyder and Phillips Resident halls and serves as the new regional food service system and residence college. The design intent was to create a Food Court that serves as an Art Gallery, where displayed food is the “Art”. This innovative concept encompasses six “cook for show” venues placed throughout a dining area known as the Gallery and is supported by a production kitchen on the same level. Additional dining is available outdoors on the newly created dining terrace. The Gallery is the first dining hall to be renovated and modernized on the Michigan State Campus in the last decade, and has set the standard for renovations in the future.
