PURDUE UNIVERSITY
FRED & MARY FORD DINING HALL
West Lafayette, Indiana
Project Description
In the Fred and Mary Ford Dining Center, Ricca Newmark Design’s goal was to create a space for the University to offer students the welcoming ambiance of a destination restaurant while efficiently operating an all-you-can-eat, seven-day-a-week board plan program. To achieve this goal, RND designed a servery, which contains seven self-branded, custom-designed display-preparation concepts in a ground-floor marketplace design. Customers can also access an express to-go area where full take-away meals are available without entering the marketplace. The ground floor further houses the facility’s kitchen. Dining spaces at this dining court can seat 800 on two levels. In its first full year of operation, Fred and Mary Ford Dining Court served over 1,100,000 meals to students, members of the Purdue academic community and guests, significantly exceeding the project team’s expectations for patronage at the university’s first free-standing dining hall.
