The roots of Ricca Newmark Design are the richest in the industry, blossoming from the seeds of two of the most respected firms of their disciplines; Thomas Ricca Associates and Newmark Diercks Design. It is with this spirit that we reflect on our past as we move into our Gen 3 future.


1973
Culinary design studio TR Enterprises is founded and designs the 1500 square foot kitchen for Lujohns Restaurant in Denver, Colorado.

1977
TR Enterprises changes its name to Thomas Ricca Associates and completes its first award-winning culinary design for Crickets Restaurant in the historic Tremont Hotel in Chicago, Illinois.

1986
The team at Thomas Ricca Associates attends its first NACUFS National Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii.

1991
Carl Newmark, Gloria Diercks, and Kenneth MacGregor form Newmark Diercks Design Inc. providing interior design services for the hospitality industry.

1995
Thomas Ricca Associates forms The Ricca Planning Studio to provide culinary master planning and programming services.

1998
Boston studio is opened.

1999
Washington DC studio is opened.

2001
Thomas Ricca Associates and Newmark Diercks Design Inc. merge to form Ricca Newmark Design. Envision Strategies is formed from The Ricca Planning Studio.

2005
Studios in New York City, Dallas and Shanghai are opened.

2006
Ricca Newmark Design becomes the first LEED certified foodservice consulting firm in the nation.
Seattle studio is opened.

2007
New studio headquarters in the Denver Technological Center is purchased.
